In view of the serious impact of overproduction and idle materials on the environment, Pacific SOGO Department Store cooperated with GIVE543. Since the end of 2018, it has launched the "box of love" service, inviting VIP members to donate the idle materials at home, and then the disadvantaged women employed by GIVE 543 will serve as gift stewards to put the materials on the Internet for social welfare groups and the disadvantaged people. On the eve of 2020, SOGO also invited the children of Taipei Municipal Tainmu Elementary School orchestra to respond to the "box of love" activity, donating a new year gift for one of the disadvantaged groups, so that the clothes, leather shoes, schoolbags and other items at home can be transformed into gifts.
SOGO has been engaged in social public welfare activities for a long time, and hopes to build the first green department store in Asia. The "box of love" activity will give full play to the characteristics of the Department Store, not only extending the product life cycle, make the best use of everything so that idle materials can find new owners, but also educate customers about the importance of recycled economy. The project won this year's "TCSA Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Award" and was recognized by all circles. SOGO Chairman Sophia C.W. Huang pointed out that the expansion of the event invited schoolchildren to respond. She hoped that the concept of recycled economy and social public welfare could take root and children can learn through lively activities.
The "box of love" project invites customers to share their love and resources to create a circle of kindness. The members donate the usable articles at home, and inform SOGO after packing. Then GIVE543 arrange the logistics to their home to collect the donations, and then to the warehouse. The "gift manager" who is served by the disadvantaged women will check, take photos and put them on the shelf in 12 processes. 460 social welfare institutions that cooperated with the platform and the disadvantaged currently have priority in choosing the gifts. Since the launch of the event, more than 130 SOGO VIPs have participated in the donation, giving 4376 gifts in total, assisting 16 public welfare organizations, and reducing carbon emissions by nearly 4 metric tons, which is equivalent to 22 trips of driving back and forth to the north and south of Taiwan.
Liang Junyao, principal of Taipei Municipal Tainmu Elementary School, also came to attend with meaningful gifts. He pointed out that the school often held second-hand goods exchange activities. He was very happy to take children to learn how to cherish happiness and take part in the environmental protection activities through SOGO’s plan. He also encouraged children to spend more time to help those in need in the future, because "giving is better than receiving".
