The 21st Y.Z. Hsu Scientific Award Ceremony Commends 26 Scientific Elite Scholars

        The 21st Y.Z.Hsu Scientific Award Ceremony of the Far Eastern Science&Technology Memorial Foundation was held on September 6th at the Far Eastern Group Shangri La Hotel in Taipei. Representatives from various institutions such as the National Science Association and the Ministry of Education, as well as relatives and friends of the winners, attended the event to share the honor and joy of the 26 winners. The foundation also specially invited Dr. President Jian Lifeng, former director of Google Taiwan, to give a speech on the topic of "Opportunities and Challenges Brought by Generative AI".

        At this ceremony, four awards will be presented, including "Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professional", "Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award", "Y. Z. Hsu Yuan Ze Chair Professional", and "Y. Z. Hsu Outstanding Professional Award". Each winner of "Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professional" will receive an NTD 1 million prize, The five winners are Professor Zhang Yi (in the field of nanotechnology), Professor Wang Lijun (in the field of information and communication technology), Professor Hong Ruihua (in the field of optoelectronic technology) from National Chiao Tung University in Yangming, China, as well as Professor Su Guanbin (in the field of biotechnology and medicine) from China Medical University and Professor Deng Xisheng (in the field of green technology) from National Cheng Kung University. The achievements of the winner, who has worked hard in the academic community for many years, have been unanimously recognized by the evaluation committee.

        The Far Eastern Y.Z.Hsu Science&Technology Memorial Foundation is a member of the Far Eastern Group affiliated enterprise, the Xu family, and friends. It was established through donations in memory of its founder, Mr. Yu Xiang Hsu. Unlike Taiwan, where most public welfare resources are concentrated in social welfare or cultural education, the Yu Zheng Hsu Foundation chooses to focus on "technological innovation" and annually holds the "Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Award" to recognize top technological talents. Douglas Hsu believes that scientific research must undergo long-term accumulation in order to achieve innovative breakthroughs. Therefore, scientists need resources and encouragement from all walks of life in order to bravely move forward without fear of difficulties. The Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Award starts from six emerging technology fields, hoping to ignite the attention and support of various sectors for technological development, and also hopes that the public will join in responding.

        The "Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Award" continues to focus on six emerging technology fields, including "nanotechnology", "information and communication technology", "optoelectronics technology", "biotechnology and medicine", "green technology", and "artificial intelligence". It has become one of the indicator awards in the scientific research community, and has awarded a total of 467 awards to date, with a total bonus of over NTD1900 million, achieving outstanding results. Academia Sinica, Academician Wu Yanhua, serves as the Section Chief and is responsible for the review of biotechnology and medicine. Academician Chen Lijun is responsible for the review of nanotechnology, Professor Lin Yiping from Yangming Jiaotong University is responsible for the review of information and communication technology, Academician Zheng Jianhong is responsible for the review of optoelectronics technology, and Honorary Professor Jiang Benji from National Taiwan University is responsible for the review of green technology, Chen Mingxian, a specially appointed professor at National Taiwan University, is responsible for the review of artificial intelligence. Due to the large number of applications, after a six-month three-stage review process and the participation of over a hundred judges, the final decision was made on the list of winners for this year, and each winner truly deserves their name.

•  Y. Z. Hsu Outstanding Professional Award: NTD 400000 per student (limited to applications from Yuan Ze University, Asia Eastern University of Science and Technology, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, and National Taiwan University Hospital in collaboration with Far Eastern Memorial Hospital)
