Far EasTone Telecommunication wins Common Wealth Magazine 1.5 ° C temperature control target badge

        Reducing carbon emissions and cooling down is urgent. Far EasTone Telecommunications has conducted a comprehensive investigation of all carbon emissions generated during its internal operations and product lifecycle. In addition to becoming the first telecommunications company in Taiwan to pass the Science Based Reduction Target Initiative (SBTi) audit under the 1.5 ° C scenario, it has recently been awarded the 1.5 ° C temperature control target seal by Common Wealth Magazine and has committed to achieving net zero emissions and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 90% by 2048.

        The "Enterprise Carbon Reduction Temperature Gauge" jointly developed by Common Wealth Magazine and Tunghai University is the only platform in Taiwan that uses international standards to inventory Taiwan's corporate carbon reduction targets. In June, the list of companies that meet the 1.5 ℃ temperature control target was released, revealing nearly a thousand companies. Only about 20% of them meet the 1.5 ℃ target of the Paris Agreement. Far EasTone Telecommunications was included and was represented by Senior Vice President Li Honghao from the Finance and Facilities Services Group.

        Given the urgent climate issue, Far EasTone Telecommunication has joined the RE100 Global Renewable Energy Initiative, committing to fully using renewable energy in offices, stores, and major data centers by 2030, and 100% using renewable energy throughout the company by 2040. The goal is to achieve net zero emissions for the entire company by 2048, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 90% in categories 1&2 and 3 compared to 2021.

        On the issue of energy conservation and carbon reduction, Far EasTone Telecommunication sets scientific reduction targets and promotes "low-carbon operation", including pioneering the "AI base station location selection" technology and introducing external air energy-saving technology to reduce the electricity consumption of computer room air conditioning. Within 3 years, the old air conditioning in the store will be replaced with "energy-saving level 1 energy efficiency" air conditioning equipment, significantly saving electricity while providing customers with a more comfortable experience. After the merger of Far East Asia by the end of 2023, we will continue to consolidate our base stations and equipment through a three pronged approach of "base station consolidation", "data center sharing", and "5G sleep technology" to improve operational and electricity efficiency, and continue to move towards the goal of net zero emissions.

        Far EasTone Telecommunications has shown outstanding performance, not only being selected for six consecutive years in Taiwan's perpetual stock index, but also ranking first in the global telecommunications industry in DJSI World. It has achieved full marks in three areas: "Environmental Policy and Management," "Waste Management," and "Water Resources Management," and has also received the highest scores in the telecommunications industry in "Climate Strategy" and "Biodiversity.
