Economic Daily's 2024 Innovation Forum Far EasTone Telecommunications General Discussion ESG Trend Insights

        On July 17th, the Economic Daily held the "2024 Innovation Forum" and invited experts from all walks of life to discuss the theme of this year's conference, "Smart Drive Ignites the Island of Sustainability", hoping to achieve environmental sustainability while rapidly developing technology. Chee Ching President gave a keynote speech titled "ESG Trend Insights of Far EasTone Telecommunications Big Data+AI+IoT", discussing his industry observations and comprehensive solutions for Far EasTone Telecommunications Big Data+AI+IoT (Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT)) after years of cultivation; Senior Vice President Zhang Wenjin from the Information and Digital Transformation Technology Group also participated in the discussion and shared the practical application of Far EasTone Telecommunication in smart cities.

        Chee Ching President stated that companies are facing a net zero challenge and need to start by reducing their carbon footprint and improving supply chain sustainability. To this end, Far EasTone Telecommunication has taken a three pronged approach, investing in renewable energy, promoting energy conservation and carbon reduction in internal operations, and promoting energy-saving applications externally. On the other hand, through credit evaluation, ESG quantitative evaluation, on-site inspection, risk assessment, third-party certification and other methods, we have also built a sustainable supply chain. Compared to 2021, the carbon reduction performance of the supply chain has reached 57.9%. At the same time, Far EasTone Telecommunication has leveraged its corporate influence to raise ESG funds, issuing a total of NTD 11 billion in Sustainability Development corporate bonds to date, making it the largest social responsibility bond issuer in Taiwan. In terms of social aspects, Far EasTone Telecommunication has observed social problems such as uneven urban-rural medical resources, aging population, and online fraud. It has independently developed a 5G remote diagnosis and treatment platform, using 5G mobile communication technology solutions to support rural areas in medical, emergency, and long-term care fields. Its service scope has covered 15 counties, cities, and 52 townships; In July 2024, with the implementation of new regulations, Far EasTone Telecommunication will launch a video clinic. Over 40 medical institutions have applied, and hundreds of virtual clinics will be opened one after another. In addition, Far EasTone Telecommunication uses technology to prevent fraud and has established Taiwan's first "AI predictive fraud automatic detection system". It continuously strengthens its AI machine learning model with a "fraud behavior feature database", blocking an average of nearly 100000 phone calls and nearly 200000 text messages per month. It has also partnered with international security companies to launch the "Far EasTone Telecommunication Guardian Network", blocking an average of 40 million website attack risks per month.

        Chee Ching President also proposed the concept of 'ESG to ESGi' during the meeting, where 'i' stands for integrity and intelligence, meaning to use technology with integrity, balance sustainability and profitability, fulfill corporate responsibilities, and solve social problems.
