        On August 8th, 2024, the Asia Pacific and Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards (APSAA/TSAA) held an award ceremony. Far Eastern Group's seven affiliated enterprises, including Asia Cement Corporation, Far Eastern Department Stores, Far Eastern Group Sogo, Big City Far Eastern Big City Shopping Malls, Everest Textile, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, and Yuan Ze University, won a total of four gold, seven silver, and four bronze awards, further affirming the group's sustainable performance. 

 

Far Eastern Department Stores wins Silver Bronze Award 3

        Far Eastern Department Stores leverages its core business to exert sustainable influence, integrating ESG into organizational culture and operational strategies to implement sustainable actions. It has won 1 silver and 2 bronze awards, including the Taoyuan store's "Connecting Love to Create a Sustainable Home" winning a silver award, the Hualien store's "Far Eastern Department Stores Hualien Warm Heart Happiness City", and the Hsinchu Far Eastern Department Store's "Far Eastern Department Stores Sustain Love" both winning bronze awards. Represented by Nancy Hsu President, the award adds energy to the company's deep cultivation of sustainable actions. Far Eastern Department Stores focuses on the three major aspects of "Good Life", "Love Together", and "Go green" in accordance with SDG indicators. Asia Cement Corporation leads the sustainable action of low-carbon cement products and achieves new results       

        This year, Asia Cement Corporation was awarded one gold and one bronze respectively for its "Low Carbon Transformation, Walking with Mud" and "Creating a Butterfly Kingdom with Habitat", becoming a model in the industry and demonstrating the company's efforts in low-carbon sustainability and biodiversity, once again receiving recognition. Vice President Zhang Zhipeng and Senior Executive Vice President of General Plant Manager stated that Asia Cement Corporation is committed to responsible production and low-carbon procurement. Through multiple innovative measures, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions and natural mineral consumption, achieves environmental benefits, and faces global climate change and environmental challenges. It will continue to deepen its green transformation, strengthen resource recycling, and contribute more to building a better home.

        The low-carbon transformation path of Asia Cement Corporation began in 2011, when it launched innovative low-carbon masonry cement. After years of research and experimentation, the Asia Cement Corporation team has successfully developed a paving cement that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 18%, making it the only enterprise producing this type of low-carbon cement. According to statistics, Asia Cement Corporation has effectively reduced 3699 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, 2292 tons of natural minerals, and 654 tons of coal consumption by 2023 by replacing traditional Portland cement with masonry cement; The air pollution emissions from unit cement bonding materials have also significantly decreased. In addition, the butterfly habitats in Taiwan have been destroyed during the economic development process, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of butterflies. Asia Cement Corporation has solved the problem of butterfly habitat fragmentation, isolation, and shrinkage through a planned habitat creation plan. It has also established an Asia Cement Corporation ecological park to promote environmental education and promote a large-scale "Taiwan Butterfly Restoration Plan". It has assisted in the construction of 34 butterfly habitats across Taiwan, hoping to connect them into a line from point to point, ultimately forming a butterfly corridor throughout Taiwan, reproducing the beauty of the butterfly kingdom, and achieving an environment where humans and nature coexist harmoniously.        

 

FE SOGO Department Stores wins first place in all department stores in Taiwan

        FE SOGO Department stores will exceed NTD 50 billion in operating revenue in 2023, making it the only department store with double-digit growth. In addition to achieving outstanding results, it actively addresses social and environmental issues by implementing three major strategies: "energy conservation and emission reduction", "sustainable consumption", and "circular business model" to address climate change issues. Not only that, FE SOGO Department stores is also the first department store to sign the SBT (Science Based Carbon Reduction Target) commitment this year. It is expected to propose carbon reduction targets within two years, set clearer carbon reduction paths, and accurately reduce carbon emissions. This time, we won 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medals, ranking first among all department stores in Taiwan.         Big City Far Eastern Big City Shopping Malls is committed to practicing green operations and cultivating local arts and culture. Since 2021, it has been recognized by the TSAA international jury for four consecutive years. Among them, in terms of environmental sustainability, the "Far Eastern Big City Shopping Malls, Planning for Sustainability" program won the Enterprise Sustainability Gold Award; At the same time, the "Strengthening Taiwan and Regional Development Plan" program promoted young artistic talents and enriched cultural life in the Hsinchu area, winning a silver award. Big City Far Eastern Big City Shopping Malls has been responding to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for many years, promoting outstanding results in multiple sustainable environmental issues, including SDGs 7 on affordable clean energy, SDGs 13 on climate action, etc. Through three strategies of "smart management", "recycling", and "full participation", it improves energy efficiency and promotes a recycled economy.

        Everest Textile has invested in sustainable actions and further developed a carbon reduction schedule to achieve its net zero commitment, while promoting a 'recycled economy' and continuously opening up new business opportunities, earning recognition with a silver award.

        Everest Textile has vertical integration capabilities and can achieve carbon reduction in one go, creating green products with excellent efficiency and effectiveness. It has also passed certifications for sustainable supply chains such as GRS, RCS, OCS, Oeko Tex. The company adheres to four principles of recycling. Firstly, the "ecological design cycle" includes the use of biodegradable materials, marine waste, agricultural and fishery waste, and other raw materials to process into products; Secondly, "resource recycling" adopts waste heat recovery systems, uses recovered water for air pollution equipment and toilets, or sets up wastewater recovery systems to increase water use efficiency; Furthermore, 'business waste recycling' includes using dry sludge as boiler auxiliary fuel and turning coal slag into environmentally friendly bricks; Finally, the "carbon cycle" replaces air conditioning with water curtain negative pressure equipment, green building and buoyancy ventilation design, low-carbon fuels replace some coal, etc., reducing the carbon footprint of products from all aspects and moving towards the "Three Zero Vision" of zero waste, zero emissions, and zero accidents, contributing to the mitigation of global warming.
