"Y.Z.Hsu Cup - The Eleventh Taiwan Young Student Physics Debate Competition" held the award ceremony

        Far Eastern Y.Z.Hsu Science & Technology Memorial Foundation and the Department of Physics of Taiwan Normal University co-sponsored the "Y.Z.Hsu Cup-Eleventh Taiwan Youth Student Physics Debate Competition". The closing ceremony and awarding ceremony were held in Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei on March 18. It was hosted by the chairman of Foundation, Douglas Hsu and Ministry of Science and Technology, Zou Youhan and Vice President of Taiwan Normal University, Li Zhongmou were invited to serve as speakers and honored guests. The competition attracted 152 high school teachers and students from all over Taiwan, and eventually "Excelsior" of Concordia Middle School won the championship and another team, "Excel" also won the gold medal which were the biggest winner.
Far Eastern Y.Z.Hsu Science & Technology Memorial Foundation, sponsored by Far East Group, was established to commemorate the late founder, Mr.Y.Z.Hsu. The Foundation attaches great importance to the Taiwan's scientific and Technological Development and education. Since 2009, it has held this event together with the Department of Physics of National Taiwan Normal University. The form of the competition is completely same as the international competition held abroad for more than 30 years, the International Young Physicists' Tournament (IYPT). It was the first time in China to debate physics topics in English besides the high bonus. It also attracts excellent high school students from all over Taiwan to participate in the contest this year. At the same time, excellent participants are selected through the domestic contest, and after a long period of training, they began to travel to Iran, Germany, Britain, Russia, Singapore and other places under the sponsorship of the Foundation in 2010 to participate in the competitions. And they have won one gold medal, five silver medals and three bronze medals in all previous international competitions
The competition mode of " Y.Z.Hsu Cup " is the first one in China. The competition topics are selected from 12 out of 17 competition topics published by IYPT every year. Before the competition, the participants should carry out experiments or simulations on each topic, during the competition, they need to report the results of the research and discuss with their opponents. The whole debate is conducted in English, focusing on the ability of oral English expression, "Interdisciplinary" learning of reasoning and dialectical ability and the teamwork spirit must be brought into play in order to have a chance to win. The competition lasted four days from March 15 to March 18 this year. There were 24 teams enrolled in the competition, and the competition was very fierce.
        In this competition, three gold medal teams are selected in advance, each team has a bonus of 150,000 yuan, and the team with the highest credits will be awarded the champion trophy; each of five silver medal teams have a bonus of 60,000 yuan; each of five bronze medal teams have a bonus of 30,000 yuan; at the same time, 10 individual prizes with a bonus of 10,000 yuan are selected. The total prize of this competition is as high as 1 million yuan, which is the top for high school students in China. The participants can get the competition certificate whether they win or not. It is a rare experience for extracurricular activities. All the outstanding students in the competition have the opportunity to become members of the Taiwan Team and receive training to participate in the IYPT International Competition held in Warsaw, Poland, in July this year.
