Far Eastern Memorial Hospital's free clinic team sends love to Belize

        Far Eastern Memorial Hospital has spared no effort in promoting international aid and has been tirelessly cultivating in its Central American friend Belize for many years. In October of this year, we once again formed a free clinic team from the departments of nephrology, ophthalmology, and oncology to go to the free clinic, and completed our mission on October 20th. Not only does it bring hope to patients, but it also demonstrates Taiwan's firm commitment to promoting cross-border medical assistance and humanitarian diplomacy. In the future, it will continue to provide support to areas in need, practicing the spirit of "Taiwan can help, and Taiwan is helping".

        The nephrology and oncology teams are providing nephrology outpatient services, as well as improving and consulting the chemotherapy process for tumors at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), the largest tertiary hospital in Belize; The ophthalmic team provides cataract, cataract, and pediatric needle eye surgery services at the nearby Belize Council for the Visually Impaired (BCVI).

        Before departure, the volunteer clinic fully evaluated the local situation and needs, and the nephrology department prepared 500 urine protein and glucose test strips for the public to test; Bosch Lun Company also lent surgical instruments such as ultrasonic emulsifiers, allowing the team to smoothly perform ophthalmic surgeries for 40 patients. The oncology team, who participated in the free consultation service for the first time, assisted in inspecting the chemotherapy operation and service process of KHMH Hospital and Dangriga Cancer Center, providing professional advice to optimize local medical processes and improve treatment levels.

        Belize Central Television and radio media conducted a special interview with the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital charity clinic. Dr. He Weiting, an ophthalmologist, stated that cataract surgery can immediately improve the patient's vision and is very pleased to help Beiguo patients regain their vision; Dr. Wu Hongyan from the Department of Nephrology also pointed out that preventing early deterioration of kidney disease requires joint care from multiple teams, but currently there is a shortage of medical personnel, which is one of the challenges facing the local area. Dr. from the Oncology Department of KHMH Hospital Yacab Section Chief told reporters that the diagnostic and treatment recommendations provided by Dr. Oriental Petrochemical (Taiwan) are helpful for complex cases and will greatly benefit the construction of future cancer centers. Finally, the doctors of the free clinic team and Dr. Beris, the chairman of the National Health Insurance Marco Mendez met to share the practical experience of Taiwan's health insurance operation and public health care.
