The integration of technology to promote diversified green transportation is an indispensable part of Taiwan's move towards net zero. Far EasTone Telecommunications, the Telecommunications and Smart Transportation Technology Development Foundation, and the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy held the 10th International Green and Smart Transportation Forum on October 24th, inviting advanced industry and academia from home and abroad to jointly explore how to "use technology to promote smart transportation and build sustainable cities.". Far EasTone Telecommunications Douglas Hsu stated in her speech that Taiwan has the world's highest quality mobile network environment, a proud technology industry chain, and abundant talent. She hopes to develop new energy and vision in the information and communications industry through net zero empowerment in the future.
This forum attracted nearly 800 people to participate in both physical and video formats, including Ambassador Jian Youxin (Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy and Chair of the Telecommunications and Smart Transport Technology Development Foundation), Vice Chief Hu Xianglin from the Department of Transport, Secretary of the Yang Zhiqing Section Chief of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Director of the Digital Industry Department, Lv Zhenghua, and Deputy Director of the Energy Department, Li Junli VIPs including Fred Kalt, Chairman of the ITS Association in Singapore, Lin Chih hoon, Energy Strategy Director of the Industrial Technology Research Institute Obstetrics International, and Pu Shusheng, President of the British Standards Institute (BSI) Northeast Asia, attended the meeting.
Douglas Hsu stated that Net Zero has become a global trend, and governments and multinational corporations around the world have successively announced their vision of "2050 net zero emissions". The affiliated enterprises of groups such as Far EasTone Telecommunications and Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection are also working together to utilize technologies such as Big Data+AI+IoT (Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT)), Develop green communication solutions in conjunction with telecommunications services and apply them in the field of smart transportation.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the International Green and Smart Transportation Forum. Douglas Hsu reviewed the outstanding achievements of the first forum's theme, which was the electronic toll collection (ETC) of highways. So far, he has saved 1 billion liters of fuel, reduced 2.32 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, and integrated the international sales of the smart transportation industry. He assisted in the establishment of an ETC demonstration zone on the M9 highway in Bangkok, Thailand, effectively reducing 90% of manual judgment costs and carbon emissions, Excellent performance led to Zhang Yongchang, Executive Director and President of Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection, being awarded the Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award at ITS World Congress this month.
Far EasTone Telecommunications also shared examples and experiences of "Sustainability Development of Smart Cities: Net Zero Cases and Applications Driven by Information and Communication in Cities" at the forum. In response to the government's promotion of renewable energy, development of new energy technology, digitalization of energy storage and power grids, and acceleration of vehicle electrification and other net zero policies, the green information and communication applications developed have already been implemented in various fields, For example, the Traffic Signal Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system effectively reuses the batteries of Gogoro and Guangyang electric vehicles as backup power for intersection traffic signals. In addition to being introduced to 187 important intersections in Taipei City, it is also being piloted in Kaohsiung City to help improve urban traffic safety and reduce carbon emissions caused by vehicle idling due to abnormal signals.
In addition, "Smart Charging Service" provides one-stop charging station construction and maintenance services for Far Eastern Department Stores, FE SOGO Department Stores, Ya Tung Department Store, A.Mart bulk sales and other group Retail and Department Stores, as well as community buildings and local county and city governments, with rich engineering experience. Over 600 devices have been established, We will also work together with Taipower to build the first V2G (electric vehicle to grid) technology fast charging demonstration station in Taipei.
In terms of energy management, Far EasTone Telecommunications is handling the "Class with Air Conditioning" project, using the "Energy Management System (EMS)" to assist 1290 primary and secondary schools in Taiwan in building low-carbon smart campuses; In addition, in response to Taiwan's carbon fee collection starting in 2024, it will assist companies in linking up with the EMS+carbon inventory platform to move towards net zero carbon emissions.
Given that the 2025 renewable energy target relies on stable power supply to be achieved, Far EasTone Telecommunications not only creates three types of "microgrid" applications: campus disaster prevention microgrid, offshore microgrid, and community microgrid, but also collaborates with Taipower to build a microgrid on Wang'an Island in Penghu to improve the previous use of only diesel generators to supply electricity to the entire island, and introduces solar photovoltaic, wind power, and energy storage systems as a power dispatch combination, Strengthen the resilience of the power grid.
