Celebrating 75th Anniversary - Far Eastern Group Chronicles Honor Sharing

        October 20th is the 75th anniversary of Far Eastern Group's relocation to Taiwan. Over the years, with the vision of being based in Taiwan and looking to the world, the group has extended its reach to multiple countries in Asia, America, and Africa, covering ten major industries. It has 243 companies under its umbrella, including nine listed companies and nearly 60000 employees. On this important day, let us follow the trajectory of our growth and count the new recruits, important milestones, and glorious deeds of Far Eastern over the years!

1937

        Founder Yu Xiang Hsu opened Tongmao Flower Grain Company in Shanghai, engaged in wholesale sales of cotton, soybeans, miscellaneous grains, and corn.

1945

        Far Eastern Group Weaving Factory Co., Ltd. was established in Shanghai to produce "western-style" underwear.

1949

        Far Eastern Group Knitting Factory Co., Ltd. was established in Banqiao, Taipei County, and October 20th was designated as the anniversary of Far Eastern Group's relocation to Taiwan.

1952

        Establish Far Eastern Textile Co., Ltd. in Taiwan and build a factory in Banqiao as a development base. (Figure 1)        

 

1954

        Far Eastern Group's knitting factory merged with Far Eastern Textile in Taiwan to form Far Eastern Textile Co., Ltd., located on Yongsui Street in Taipei City, which was the earliest corporate headquarters of Far Eastern Group.

1957

        Entering the cement industry, Asia Cement Corporation was established with its manufacturing plant located in Hsinchu.

1958

        A fire broke out at Far Eastern Textile factory, and equipment and spindles were set on fire. The following year, the site was rebuilt and the most advanced West German Zinser textile machines were purchased, establishing a competitive advantage.

1960

        The No. 1 kiln of Asia Cement Corporation's Hsinchu plant has been completed and put into operation, and the first batch of cement will be used to build the Zhonghua Shopping Mall.

1962

　　Asia Cement Corporation is listed on the stock market, becoming Far Eastern Group's first publicly traded company. (Figure 2)

 

1964

        Far Eastern Textile has established a joint venture with Singaporean overseas Chinese businessmen to establish 'Malaysia Garment (Private) Limited'; Asia Cement Corporation and Singapore Overseas Chinese United Bank jointly established the "Asia Cement Corporation (Malaysia) Company" (renamed as "Asia Cement Corporation (Singapore) Company" in 1973)

1965

        Far Eastern Textile has added a printing and dyeing processing plant to complete the vertical integration of spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing, and finished garments.
        Far Eastern Textile and Asia Cement Corporation jointly established the "Oriental Petrochemical (Taiwan) Women's Basketball Team", which is the first women's basketball team cultivated by a company in Taiwan.

1966
        Far Eastern Group headquarters relocated to Baoqing Road, Taipei City.

1967
        Established Far Eastern Department Stores on Yongsui Street in Taipei City, officially entering the retail business.
        Far Eastern Textile was listed on the stock market and co founded "Oriental Textile Co., Ltd." with three Japanese companies, namely Toray, Gifu, and Mitsui&Co., Ltd. It was the only dyeing and finishing company in Taiwan at that time specializing in chemical synthetic fiber fabrics. (merged into Far Eastern Textile in 1983).

1968
        Far Eastern Textile and Manhattan and B. in the United States V. D. Technical cooperation with underwear companies, producing beautiful shirts and BVD underwear at Banqiao Garment Factory. BVD became synonymous with underwear in Taiwan at that time.
        Establish U-Ming Marine Transport Co., Ltd. to develop land transportation business.       

        1969

 

        Far Eastern Textile and Asia Cement Corporation invested in the establishment of Oriental Petrochemical (Taiwan) Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd., which is the earliest factory in Asia to produce semi stretch yarn. (Figure 3)

        Established the "Private Oriental Industries (Suzhou) Technical College" in Banqiao, pioneering the establishment of a two-year private vocational college.

        1970

        Mr. Douglas Hsu returned to Taiwan to serve as the Executive Director of Far Eastern Textile.

        1971

        Establish Fu Kwok Knitting&Garment Corporation Limited.

        

        1972

        Far Eastern Textile has purchased the "New Taiwan Textile Banqiao Textile Factory" and renamed it "Far Eastern Textile Banqiao New Textile Factory"; Purchased "Yongxing Industrial Neili Textile Factory" and renamed it "Far Eastern Textile Neili Textile Factory".

        Far Eastern Department Stores established the "Far Eastern Department Stores Taipei Branch" on Baoqing Road, which is the first large-scale department store in Taiwan to simultaneously operate a supermarket. (Figure 4)

        1973

        The Private Oriental Industries (Suzhou) Technical College has been renamed as the Private Oriental Industries (Suzhou) Technical College (referred to as the Oriental Institute of Technology).

        1974

        U-Ming Marine Transport publishes advertisements for "Happy Family" and "Consumer Era" books and magazines.

        Malaysia Garment (Private) Limited has undergone capital increase and restructuring, and is now fully operated by Far Eastern Textile.

        1975

        

        The No.1 kiln of Asia Cement Corporation's Hualien plant has been completed and put into operation. (Figure 5)

        Established "Lidong Transportation Company" (renamed "AliExpress Co., Ltd." in 1980)

        Far Eastern Department Stores has established its first overseas branch, Far Eastern Department Stores Hawaii Branch, in Hawaii, USA.

        Far Eastern Textile Company has formed a joint venture with Central Investment Corporation, Executive Yuan Development Fund, American company Union Carbide, and China Development Corporation to establish Oriental Union Chemical Corporation Limited.

        1976

        Establish the Far Eastern Memorial Foundation to support cultural, educational, and technological development.

        1977

        Asia Cement Corporation established the "Shulin Cement Products Factory" and ventured into the ready mixed concrete business.

        Establish the Far Eastern Medical Foundation to sponsor various cultural and educational activities, medical research and assistance, and carry out hospital construction work.

        1978

        Far Eastern Textile acquired the Zhongzhou Textile Factory and named it "Far Eastern Textile Kuanyin Textile Factory".

        Oriental Petrochemical (Taiwan) Chemical Fiber and Far Eastern Textile merged to form the "Far Eastern Textile Chemical Fiber Factory", which is the largest polyester factory in Taiwan.

        Far Eastern Department Stores has been listed on the stock market, becoming the third publicly traded company in the group. Its three core businesses of textiles, cement, and retail have taken shape.

        Oriental Union Chemical Corporation's Kaohsiung Linyuan plant has been completed, producing chemical fiber raw material ethylene glycol (EG).

        Far Eastern Textile, Asia Cement Corporation, and Far Eastern Department Stores jointly established the "Joint Stock Affairs Center" and officially went public.

        Establishing Far Eastern Construction Company to expand into the construction industry.

        1979

        Far Eastern Textile merged with Ronglong Textile Factory in Wugu Township, Taipei County, and was renamed as Far Eastern Textile Mount Taishan Textile Factory.

        The Joint Stock Service Center established Oriental Securities Corporation Investment Co., Ltd., which was one of the top three stock service agencies in Taiwan that year, along with China Securities and China Trust.

        1980

        Establish 'Fu Ming Transport'.

        To meet the cement transportation needs of Asia Cement Corporation's Hualien plant, U-Ming Marine Transport has ordered the "Asia Cement Corporation No.1" from China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, which is Taiwan's first fully enclosed self dumping bulk cement specialized ship and opens Far Eastern Group's marine transportation business. (Figure 6)

        1981

        In response to the energy crisis, Asia Cement Corporation switched to burning coal and built the first large-scale centralized coal mill in Taiwan's cement industry at its Hsinchu plant.

        Far Eastern Memorial Hospital has officially opened, becoming the first modern large-scale hospital in Taipei County. (Figure 7)

        The board of directors of Yu Chang Technical Commercial Vocational High School ("Yu Chang Technical Commercial Vocational High School" for short), which was originally established in 1970, was reorganized, and was continued by the Far Eastern Group and moved to the Far Eastern Textile Mount Taishan Plant.

        

        1982

        Establish Asia Engineering Enterprise Co., Ltd.

        Far Eastern Construction established Far Eastern General Construction Inc.

        1983

        Establish Ding&Ding Management Consultants Hotel Co., Ltd.

        1984

        U-Ming Marine Transport was renamed as "U-Ming Marine Transport", and since then, sea transportation has been operated by "U-Ming Marine Transport", while land transportation has been merged into "Fu Ming Transport". In the same year, the first Panamanian extreme bulk carrier, the Grand Pioneer, was delivered.

        1985

        The first lightweight bulk carrier "Asia Pioneer" of U-Ming Marine Transport has been delivered. Far Eastern Department Stores has invested to establish "Far Eastern Ai Mai" (A.Mart).

        Far Eastern Textile and Asia Cement Corporation jointly established Yuan Ding Construction Co., Ltd., responsible for the construction of Taipei Metro.

        1986

        Asia Cement Corporation established 'Kowloon Cement' in Hong Kong.

        Far Eastern Department Stores has established the "Far Eastern Group A.Mart Product Selection Center" in Kaohsiung, driving the prosperity of more than three commercial districts.

        1987

        

        Far Eastern Textile and Hong Kong S C. Fang&Song established a joint venture called "Baoda Container Company" to produce polyester bottles and preforms; In addition, a joint venture was established with the West German company Freudenberg and the Japanese company Vilene to form the "Ludwei Far Eastern Group" (later renamed "Fredenberg Far Eastern Spurweb"), which produces high-strength composite molded polyester materials; Further establish a joint venture with French Air Liquide International to establish Air Liquide Far Eastern Co., Ltd., which produces industrial gases and is one of the top three industrial gas suppliers in Taiwan.

        Asia Cement Corporation sold cement to Japan and began selling it to the United States the following year, paving the way for Taiwan's cement exports.

        Oriental Union Chemical Corporation's stock is listed.

        Approved by the Ministry of Education to establish the "Private Yuan Ze University School of Engineering" and officially enrolled students since 1989. (Figure 8)

        1988

        Far Eastern Textile and Shin Kong Group jointly establish the "Taiwan Recycling Industry Company" to engage in the recycling and processing of PET bottles; In addition, establish 'Everest Textile' in conjunction with Honghe Textile Company.

        Far Eastern Textile and Lurgi, a West German company, jointly established Far Eastern Group Lurgi Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., with the main business of treating wastewater from the petrochemical and textile industries; At the same time, P.E.T (Thailand) CO., LTD. was jointly established with Srithai Superware in Thailand to produce polyester bottles and preforms.

        Far Eastern Medical Foundation established "Far Eastern Ployclinic" on Yongsui Street in Taipei City.

        1989

        Far Eastern Textile invests in Cemtex Apparel, Inc. in the Philippines.

        Oriental Securities Corporation has invested and renamed itself as "Oriental Securities Corporation", becoming a comprehensive securities firm licensed by the government.

        Fu Ming Transport established Fu Da Transport Corporation.

        1990

        

        Far Eastern Textile has invested in two garment factories, WELLKNITER and KERANG EMAS, in Malaysia. (Figure 9)

        Oriental Union Chemical Corporation, in collaboration with American company Yongbei and Japanese company Mitsui, has established a joint venture called "A&O Company" in Canada to produce ethylene glycol (EG).

        Far Eastern Textile issues convertible corporate bonds, setting a precedent for convertible bond fundraising in Taiwan.

        Publishing the monthly magazine 'Far Eastern' has become an important platform for Far Eastern Group to release information.

        U-Ming Marine Transport went public on the stock market and delivered its first cape type bulk carrier, the "Yuya", in the same year. Since then, it has had three major types of bulk carriers and its scale has become more complete.

        Far Eastern Ai Mai has established the "A.Mart Jingmei Store", which is the first mass market of Far Eastern Group.

        Asia Cement Corporation and Far Eastern General Construction Inc. jointly established Ya Li Precast Prestressed Concrete Industries Corporation to produce precast concrete slabs.

        1991

        Far Eastern Textile's board of directors has been restructured and Douglas Hsu has been elected as the new chairman.

        Far Eastern Department Stores Baoqing Building caught fire, Far Eastern Group headquarters temporarily relocated to Yongsui Street, and later moved to Guotai Dunnan Building on Dunhua South Road.

        Far Eastern Memorial Hospital has been rated as a regional teaching hospital by the Department of Health.

        1992

        Asia Cement Corporation issues GDR, setting a precedent for Taiwanese private enterprises to issue overseas depositary receipts.

        Far Eastern International Bank has officially opened for business, and the group has expanded into the financial industry.

        1993

        The completion of Taipei Metro is the first composite twin tower building in Taiwan that integrates a shopping mall, hotel, and office building. The affiliated enterprise of the group has entered. (Figure 10)

        U-Ming Marine Transport merges with "Zhongyu Shipping Company".

        1994

        The Ya Tung Department Store (The Mall) has opened, extending Far Eastern Group's retail business scope to the boutique market.

        U-Ming Marine Transport has established "U-Ming Marine Transport (Singapore) Private Limited".

        The Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei has opened.

        1995

        Far Eastern Textile establishes' Far Eastern Group Boda Bottle Manufacturing (Malaysia) Company 'to expand overseas bottle manufacturing capacity; In addition, Far Eastern Group DuPont (later renamed Far Eastern Group Invista) was established as a joint venture with DuPont in the United States to produce nylon 66 fibers, and collaborated with ICI in the United Kingdom to establish Far Eastern Group (later renamed Invista Far Eastern Group) to produce pure terephthalic acid (PTA). (Figure 11)

        Asia Cement Corporation established Shanghai Yali Cement Products Co., Ltd., which was the first cement company in Taiwan to legally invest in mainland China. It was completed and put into operation in 1997.

        Far Eastern Group Hongli Multi volume Store was established in Tainan (merged into A.Mart in 2000) as a new business model that combines retail and tourist hotels.

        Everest Textile's stock is listed.

        

        1996

        Obtained the last chemical fiber industry license issued by mainland China to foreign-funded enterprises, and planned to establish Far Eastern Textile as "Far Eastern Industry (Shanghai) Company". It began production in 1998 and was the largest bottle grade slicing and main polyester filament manufacturer at that time.

        Establish Far Eastern Group Construction Manager Company.

        1997

        Far Eastern Textile is the first in Taiwan to launch the One Piece five claw (no base) PET bottle that is easy to recycle and regenerate.

        Far Eastern Apparel (Suzhou) Company has officially started mass production and marketed its self created brand "European Style" in the mainland market.

        Yuan Ding's construction plan for the Kaohsiung Asian Enterprise Center began, obtaining the license for the tallest building in Taiwan at that time (103 floors).

        The private Yuan Ze University School of Engineering has been approved by the Ministry of Education to change its name to Yuan Ze University.

        1998

        Far Eastern Textile established a coincidence, polyester long fiber, and false twist factory in Kuanyin, which was the largest single production capacity factory in the world at that time. In the same year, Hukou Textile Factory No. 8 was officially put into operation, and the garment factory located in the processing zone of Bintan Island, Indonesia also started production.

        U-Ming Marine Transport has established a Shanghai representative office in mainland China.

        Everest Textile has established a factory in Thailand.

        Far Eastern International Bank's stock is listed. In the same year, Far Eastern International Bank became the first custodian bank in Taiwan to assist companies in issuing Taiwan Depositary Receipts.

        Far EasTone Telecommunication, a joint venture with AT&T in the United States, has officially opened for business, launching the world's first GSM900/1800 dual band system. (Figure 12)

        1999

        Mr. Yu Xiang Hsu, the founder, was awarded the "Grand Cordon Star Medal" by the then president in recognition of his active participation in public welfare undertakings such as sports, education, and healthcare.

        Asia Cement Corporation has obtained the operating rights of Chiahui Power Corporation.

        Far Eastern Department Stores established its first second-generation store, Taoyuan FE21 ', and subsequently, each branch gradually transformed into FE21 new concept stores.

        Far Eastern International Bank has established "Far Eastern International Bank Life Insurance Agent Company" and "Far Eastern International Leasing Corporation" respectively.

        Oriental Securities Corporation established "Oriental Securities Corporation Investment Consultant Company".

        Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, Far Eastern Ployclinic, and National Taiwan University Hospital have signed a medical strategy alliance.

        Establish the "Telecommunications and Smart Technology Development Foundation" and set up the "Far EasTone Telecommunications Education Center" to promote the development of communication technology.

        2000

        Far Eastern Group Industrial Co., Ltd. is listed on the Hong Kong Growth Enterprise Market, becoming the first overseas listed company of Far Eastern Group.

        The No.1 kiln of Jiangxi Yadong Cement has been completed and put into operation.

        A. Mart merged with the "French Commerce Ji'an Mass Mart Store" and renamed it as "A.Mart Ji'an Mass Mart Store", becoming Taiwan's first mass-produced store that combines local and international business know-how.

        In line with the policy of opening up fixed line communication services, "New Century InfoComm Tech" was established and officially opened for operation the following year.

        The private Oriental Industries (Suzhou) vocational school has been approved by the Ministry of Education to be restructured as the Oriental Institute of Technology. (Figure 13)

        2001

        The first third-generation store of Far Eastern Department Stores, Far Eastern Department Stores FE21 'MegA in Kaohsiung, has opened. (Figure 14)

        Far Eastern International Bank has partnered with Big Alliance Asset Management in the United States to establish Far Eastern Group Big Alliance Asset Management.

        Establish the Far Eastern Y.Z. Hsu Science&Technology Memorial Foundation, which is the first private foundation organization approved by the National Science Council.

        2002

        Far Eastern Textile acquires DuPont Suzhou Polymer Plant and changes its name to "Far Eastern Industries (Suzhou) Company" to produce polyester chips; Another company, Yuanfang Industry (Wuxi), was established to produce cotton yarn.

        The Oriental Union Chemical Corporation's ethylene carbonate plant (EC) and ethanolamine plant (EA) have been successively completed, making them the largest production capacity plants in the world and Asia, respectively. (Figure 15)

        Far EasTone Telecommunication obtained Taiwan's third-generation (3G) mobile phone license and dialed Taiwan's first 3G video phone the following year.

        Pacific SOGO Department Store and China Pacific Department Store have joined Far Eastern Group.

        2003

        Far Eastern Textile has formed a strategic alliance with American company Cargill Dow to produce and sell corn fiber, entering the field of environmentally friendly fibers; Another company, Far Eastern Dyeing&Finishing (Suzhou), was established to produce needle Far Eastern Dyeing&Finishing (Suzhou) fabrics.

        Establish Far Eastern Resources Development to be responsible for the land resource development business of Far Eastern Textile Company.

        U-Ming Marine Transport established "U-Ming Marine Transport (Hong Kong) Company".

        Far EasTone Telecommunication signed a merger agreement with Hexin Telecom and officially merged the following year.

        The "Chengdu Pacific Chunxi New Pavilion" of Pacific SOGO has opened.

        Chiahui Power Corporation has officially started operations, with Japan's J-POWER holding a 40% stake.

        Far EasTone Telecommunication has partnered with four companies, Dongyuan, Jingcheng, and Shentong, to establish the Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection, which provides electronic toll collection services for highways. (Figure 16)

        2004

        Establish 'Chongqing Far Eastern Department Stores' and officially operate the Chinese department store market under the dual brands of Pacific Department Store and Far Eastern Department Stores.

        Jointly established Far Eastern City Super with City'Super, launching a top tier supermarket business, with the first branch being the Ya Tung Department Store.

        The delivery of the super tanker "Star Warrior" ordered by U-Ming Marine Transport and Hong Kong Huaguang Company's strategic alliance.

        Establish Far Eastern Asset Management Corporation.

        Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection has been verified and verified as the first electronic toll station in Taiwan. ETC was fully launched in the same year.

        2005

        Oriental Petrochemical (Shanghai) Corporation has officially commenced production.

        Establish Wuhan Far Eastern New Material.

        Establish Tianjin Far Eastern Department Stores.

        Arcoa Communication has joined Far Eastern Group.

        Far EasTone Telecommunication's stock is listed.

        Ding&Ding Management Consultants jointly launched Happy Buy "HAPPY GO" joint gathering card, which is Taiwan's first cross industry joint gathering platform.

        2006

        Leading the restructuring of Taiwan Recycling Company.

        Sichuan Yadong Cement No.1 kiln has been completed and put into operation.

        Oriental Union Chemical Corporation participated in the establishment of "Guoguang Petrochemical Technology Company".

        Establish Everest Textile (Shanghai) Development Company.

        The Pacific SOGO Revival Hall has opened, becoming the first department store in Taiwan to be connected to the MRT system.

        Far Eastern Memorial Hospital has been evaluated by the Department of Health and is the first medical center in Taipei County.

        2007

        Construction of the Far Eastern Group Communication Park in Taipei has begun.

        Establish 'Far Eastern Textile (China) Investment Company' and initiate equity integration plans for overseas subsidiaries.

        Far Eastern Textile has partnered with Belgian beer company Martens to establish "Zhongbi Beer (Suzhou) Company"; In the same year, Oriental Industries (Suzhou) officially began production.

        Far Eastern Textile acquired Fashionline Saigon Limited in Vietnam, renamed as Far Eastern Apparel (Vietnam), and completed production in 2010.

        Far Eastern International Bank's Hong Kong branch has officially opened, becoming Far Eastern International Bank's first overseas business base.

        Far EasTone Telecommunication has been granted a WiMAX South Region license and acquired 51% equity in Qware Communications to conduct WiFi wireless communication business.

        A. Mart has ended its partnership with the French company "Ji'an Mass Mart Store" and has become a 100% owned and operated wholesale store by Far Eastern Department Stores.

        Ding&Ding Management Consultants jointly established GO HAPPY online Happy Shopping Mall to enter online shopping channels.

        2008

        Far Eastern Group has been renamed as Far Eastern Fibertech.

        The Far Eastern Group of NVIDIA has been renamed as Oriental Petrochemical (Taiwan).

        Taiwan Recycling Industry Corporation has been renamed Oriental Resources Development Corporation.

        Asia Cement Corporation (China) Holding Company is listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

        Yangzhou Yadong Cement has been completed and put into operation.

        Establish Oriental Petrochemical (Taiwan) (Yangzhou) Company. (Figure 17)

        Far Eastern Group underwent a restructuring, with American based asset management company, Big Union Asset Management, exiting and forming an alliance with Deutsche Bank, renaming itself as "DWS Far Eastern Investments Limited Investment Trust Company".

        2009

        Far Eastern Textile has been renamed as Far Eastern New Century Corporation Limited.

        The Hubei Yadong Cement No.1 kiln has been completed and put into operation.

        U-Ming Marine Transport has established a representative office in Xiamen, expanding into the river sea intermodal transportation market; In the same year, 9 vessels of Chinese nationality were granted direct shipping to both sides of the Taiwan Strait, becoming the first bulk shipping company to obtain a 3-year direct shipping license.

        New Century InfoComm Tech merges with Digital Union, with "New Century InfoComm Tech" as the surviving company.

        The Pacific SOGO Tianmu store has opened, becoming the first NEW LIFE concept store. (Figure 18)

        The Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan has officially opened, becoming the first international 5-star hotel in central and southern Taiwan, and also the highest landmark in Tainan City.

        

2010

Far Eastern International Bank integrates 19 branches of the former Qingfeng Bank and holds a joint opening event for 16 new branches.

U-Ming Marine Transport has established a joint venture with CPC and AVIC to operate in the oil tanker market, and successfully built the super tanker (VLCC) \"Huanneng No.1\" in 2016.

Far Eastern Department Stores Wuxi store opens.

Asia Cement Corporation (China) has signed an MOU with Shanshui Cement to jointly enter the northeast and northwest markets of mainland China. In the same year, Huanggang Yadong Cement No.1 kiln was put into operation.

Far Eastern Memorial Foundation co organized the \"2010 Taipei International Flora Expo\" and created the world's first PET bottle building EcoARK \"Far Eastern Group Environmental Ark\".

2011

Establish Far Eastern Group Yihua Petrochemical (Yangzhou).

Far Eastern International Bank has purchased 100% equity of Anzhi Securities and renamed it Far Eastern International Securities to expand its high asset clients and cross-border integrated investment services.

The fourth generation Far Eastern Department Stores, TopCity Taichung City Far Eastern Department Stores, has opened; The following year, MegaCity Banqiao Far Eastern Department Stores and Big City Far Eastern Big City Shopping Malls were also opened successively.

2012

Establish Far Eastern Textile Industry (Yangzhou) Co., Ltd. and Far Eastern Union Chemical Corporation Petrochemical (Yangzhou) Co., Ltd.

The first direct operated store of Far EasTone Telecommunication opened in Sanchong.
