The 24th Y.Z. Hsu Scientific Award, hosted by Far Eastern Group's legal entity, Far Eastern Y.Z. Hsu Science&Technology Memorial Foundation, held an award ceremony on September 24th to recognize 32 top research elites, with a total prize of NTD 17.3 million. At the ceremony, representatives from various sectors of industry, government, academia, and research gathered to witness the annual glorious moment of Taiwan's scientific community. Shaw Y. Wang, CEO of Far Eastern Group Public Welfare and Yu Xiang Hsu Foundation, pointed out that the foundation's core purpose is "technological innovation" and is committed to promoting forward-looking scientific research and development in Taiwan, focusing on six major fields: nanotechnology, information and communication, optoelectronics, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, green technology, and artificial intelligence. Although Taiwan has a small land area, it is full of excellent high-tech talents. It is hoped that through the "Y.Z. Hsu Scientific Award", top scholars will be recognized, and outstanding research results will receive social attention and recognition.

The Far Eastern Y.Z. Hsu Science&Technology Memorial Foundation was established in 2001 as the first private science and technology foundation approved by the National Science Council. Since its inception, the Y.Z. Hsu Scientific Award has awarded a total of 554 awards, with a total prize money exceeding NTD 240 million, injecting abundant momentum into Taiwan's scientific research and innovation. Vice Chairman of the National Science Council, Zhang Zhenhao, stated that the Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Award has a high reputation in Taiwan's scientific research community, and previous winners have been exemplary in various fields. The foundation has long focused on technological development and talent cultivation, which is highly in line with the policy goals of the National Science Council.

This ceremony presents five major awards, including "Y.Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professor," "Y.Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award," "Y.Z. Hsu Technology Invention Award," "Y.Z. Hsu Outstanding Professor Award," and "Y.Z. Hsu Yuan Ze Chair Professor. Among them, the highest honor "Y.Z. Hsu Scientific Chair Professor" is awarded a NTD 1.5 million prize to each recipient, symbolizing the highest recognition of top scientific research talents. The five lecture winners are: Professor Hu Yucheng from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University (in the field of nanotechnology), Professor Li Linshan from the School of Electrical Engineering and Information Science at National Taiwan University (in the field of information and communication technology), Professor Lin Zhilong from the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (in the field of optoelectronic technology), and Professor Ye Zhiguang from the Department of Medical Engineering and Environmental Science at Tsinghua University (in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals); Professor Cai Chunjin, Lifetime Lecturer in Green Technology at the International Semiconductor Industry College of Yangming National Chiao Tung University.

The evaluation committee for this session is composed of Academician Sinica Wu Yanhua as the Section Chief and convener of the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical category, Academician Sinica Chen Lijun responsible for the review of nanotechnology, Professor Lin Yiping of Yangming National Chiao Tung University responsible for the review of information and communication technology, Vice President Qi Zhenying of National Central University responsible for the review of optoelectronic technology, Honorary Professor Jiang Benji of National Taiwan University responsible for the review of green technology, and Professor Chen Mingxian of National Taiwan University responsible for the review of artificial intelligence. Due to the large number of applications, after six months of rigorous three-stage selection and the participation of over a hundred experts and scholars, the final list of winners for this year was decided.

In addition to rewarding top academic research, the foundation also actively promotes the rooting of science education downwards. Since 2009, the foundation has collaborated with the Physics Department of National Taiwan Normal University to organize the "Yu Xiang Hsu Cup - Taiwan Youth Student Physics Debate Competition (TYPT)", which adopts an international format and encourages high school students to conduct physics experimental debates in English, cultivating their scientific thinking and expression abilities. The Taiwan representative team, jointly trained by the Foundation and the Physics Department of National Taiwan Normal University, went to Switzerland in July to participate in the 39th International Young Physicists Debate Championships (IYPT). In the fierce competition among 35 teams, they won a silver medal in the international competition and achieved a total of 2 gold, 8 silver, and 6 bronze medals over the years, demonstrating the scientific research level and international competitiveness of the younger generation.

The core of technological innovation lies in talent and long-term investment. In the future, the Yu Xiang Hsu Foundation will continue to support Taiwan's forward-looking research and technology talent cultivation, encourage more research teams to invest in basic science and technological innovation, and accumulate the energy of sustained innovation for Taiwan through industry government academia research cooperation.
