The electrical engineering department team participated in the 2022 Ministry of Education "Smart Chip System Application Innovation Special Implementation Contest" to show the special achievements of "efficient vehicle terminal image defogging algorithm and chip architecture design". On August 31, the team was awarded the "Smart Terminal Device Group - Gold Award", which is the only private school winning the prize.
The "Implementation Competition of Smart Chip System Application Innovation" is divided into smart health group, smart terminal device group and smart environment group. Among them, the intelligent terminal device group participated by the electrical engineering department team of Yuan Ze University mainly solves the issues on terminal devices with chip system technology, intelligent technology or platform. A total of 15 teams in this group will be promoted to the final, and will be evaluated according to the presentation, actual simulation, evaluation questions and answers and other achievements.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are the development spindles of automotive electronics today. However, with the frequent traffic accidents, driving safety has become the next urgent problem to be solved. After analyzing the cause of the accident and the nature of AI, Yuan Ze University's team concluded two shortcomings to be improved, including AI's extreme dependence on accurate input images, which is not suitable for use in harsh weather, and AI's long operation time, which leads to short response time. In order to solve these problems, the team used the "image defogging" technology to make the image free from fog interference and accurate judgment. In addition, the team selected chips with high running speed characteristics to shorten computing time and avoid huge hardware costs.
Professor Li Yuxuan, who is responsible for leading the team, said that he expected to use the characteristics of the terminal defogging workshop, such as high frame rate, low memory usage and high throughput, to reduce the hardware burden of the subsequent ADAS, ensure the safety of users of autonomous vehicles, contribute to the development of intelligent terminal devices, and jointly create a comfortable and safe driving environment.
