Low carbon city progressive Asia Cement Corporation launches green wave at EU forum

        Faced with the severe challenge of climate change, developing smart zero carbon cities has become a global consensus. Yuan Ze University and the European Union Innovation Association (EAI) jointly held the "SmartZero City 2025 Smart Zero Carbon City Forum" on March 24th, inviting global experts, scholars, and business leaders to discuss innovative technologies and sustainable strategies, and to create low-carbon and resilient cities. Asia Cement Corporation was invited as a guest speaker to deeply analyze the roles of cement and concrete in the net zero transformation, share carbon reduction achievements, and provide industry perspectives for urban sustainability.

        Cement and concrete are the most widely used building materials globally and an important pillar in promoting smart zero carbon cities. Chen Zhixian, Chief Deputy Factory Manager of Asia Cement Corporation's Hualien plant, pointed out that cement and concrete play an irreplaceable role in infrastructure, transportation networks, and green buildings due to their high strength, durability, and plasticity. Among them, infrastructure (SDG 9) has a 72% impact on the progress of the United Nations' Sustainability Development Goals, demonstrating that cement concrete materials are key to achieving sustainable visions.

        Asia Cement Corporation refers to the guidelines of GCCA Global Cement and Concrete Association, CEMBUREAU European Cement Association, and PCA Portland Cement Association in the United States, and proposes a net zero emission roadmap to promote the "5C+1C carbon reduction strategy", covering carbon reduction technologies for clinker, cement, and concrete, as well as construction&design optimization and re carbonation reaction technology. Combined with recycled economy, process improvement, introduction of renewable energy, and production of low-carbon cement, it successfully reduces carbon emissions and product carbon footprint. In addition, Asia Cement Corporation has also invested in the research and development of carbon capture and reuse (CCU) technology, creating new possibilities for industrial net zero. Chen Zhixian, Chief Deputy Factory Manager, stated that, Asia Cement Corporation is one of the few companies to achieve annual SBTi carbon reduction targets. It has already completed the first phase of its 2025 goal ahead of schedule in 2024 and plans to reduce carbon emissions by 45.7% in 2035 and achieve net zero emissions in 2050.

        Asia Cement Corporation is expanding into the field of recycled economy, extensively recycling resource-based products from Taiwan's top ten industries and local governments, including photovoltaics, steel, and petrochemicals. Through cement kiln collaborative processing technology, these products are transformed into alternative raw materials and fuels for cement production processes, reducing natural resource consumption and effectively lowering environmental burdens. According to statistics from the past three years, Asia Cement Corporation's Hualien plant has cumulatively used 103 thousand tons of alternative fuels and 1148 thousand tons of alternative raw materials, equivalent to reducing 360000 tons of CO2 greenhouse gas emissions.

        With outstanding performance in the field of recycled economy, On March 3rd, Asia Cement Corporation was awarded the Annual Model Award for Innovative Services at the 5th Taiwan Recycled Economy Awards. Building a smart zero carbon city not only relies on innovative technology, but also requires cooperation and resource integration between industries, Asia Cement Corporation's green solutions will help significantly reduce carbon emissions in areas such as construction and infrastructure, providing core momentum to accelerate global progress towards net zero.
