Far EasTone telecommunication and SOGO Department Store won the first National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award

        Far EasTone Telecommunication cares for the environment and implements sustainability, and is highly praised for its innovative energy-saving technology and comprehensive management system; Pacific SOGO Department Store is also praised for its energy and resource management and green marketing tools. Both of them won the silver award of the first "National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award" issued by the Environmental Protection Agency of the Executive Yuan on November 8. Chairman Douglas Hsu and Sophia C.W. Huang went to the presidential palace to be praised by Vice President Chen Jianren and Director Zhang Zijing of the Environmental Protection Agency.

In terms of resource saving, carbon emission, power and water consumption of Far EasTone Telecommunication decreased for three consecutive years, with a total of 6373 metric tons of carbon reduction (35.04 million kwh electricity) in 2018; the application of innovative energy-saving technology saves more than 22% of the power of high-efficiency maglev air-conditioning host, and the use of adsorption dehumidification heat exchange system will significantly reduce the external gas heat load by 57%, so as to achieve energy-saving effect and maintain indoor air quality.

        

        Far EasTone Telecommunication has also spared no effort on the specific actions of environmental sustainability. In terms of environmental participation, it advocates all kinds of suppliers to purchase according to the green procurement criteria, and at the same time, it includes energy-saving specifications into the options of the bids. In 2018, the total amount of green procurement reached 380 million yuan. This year, it takes actions with suppliers to form a "pioneer team of sustainability" to implement green Life. It also actively promotes environmental education, integrating "environmental protection" into "games" in which it has built hundreds of environmental education questions on the online game learning platform, so that environmental education can take root from childhood and children will be attracted and learn from the games. And FET continues to adopt the coast and encourages employees and their families to participate in the beach cleaning activities. In addition, Far EasTone Telecommunication took the lead in formulating sustainable strategy blueprint and clear environmental and energy management organization and objectives, and verified the carbon emission, environment and energy by third party. This year, it was elected to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World Index in the United States. Far EasTone Telecommunication, as the only telecommunication industry winner in the first National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award, not only hopes to pursue growth in the transformation, but also pays attention to ecological environment tolerance and social responsibility, and expects to lead the industry to contribute to the earth.

        The Pacific SOGO Department Store is also the only and the first department store winner of the "National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award". Chairman Sophia C.W. Huang pointed out that SOGO is a CSR model in the department store industry. It's SOGO’s duty to implement the CSR spirit and set an example of environmental protection in the department store industry.         To build a green department store, the management mode is very important. The Pacific SOGO Department Store implements internal energy management and control with systematic and scientific management. The Pacific SOGO Department Store introduced ISO 50001 management system into Dunhua store in 2017. Since 2018, all stores in the whole Taiwan have managed energy in this spirit, which has made great progress in power consumption saving. Each kilowatt hour has generated revenue growth for three years in a row, with an increase of 4.75% in 2018 compared with the previous year, and public power consumption has decreased by 5%. After obtaining the first "carbon label" of the department store in 2015, Pacific SOGO Department Store Tianmu store achieved "carbon reduction label" last year with the performance of nearly 25% carbon reduction in three years and 7 times higher than the regulation. In 2018, Dunhua store also obtained the greenhouse gas verification statement. In the future, it can propose reduction measures to gradually reduce carbon emissions.

        

        Pacific SOGO Department Store advocates energy conservation and carbon reduction through marketing activities, and at the same time enables consumers to better understand climate risks. It provides customers with fast and convenient services and reduces paper use with green marketing tools such as community software, SOGO app, online shopping mall, etc. Up to now, the Pacific SOGO Department Store has supported 12 electronic payment methods, among which electronic gift coupons have become successful due to the development of digital marketing, and their utilization rate has been continuously increased. In 2018, more than 300 million yuan of electronic gift coupons were issued, 52% higher than the previous year. If they were converted into paper gift coupons, 145 trees which are 12 meters tall can be saved.

        

        As an important channel in Taiwan, Pacific SOGO Department Store has worked with suppliers and counter manufacturers to implement the concept of sustainability since 2015. It has successively launched projects such as commodity safety, food safety net, rejection of melamine resin tableware, and required manufacturers to sign "corporate social responsibility commitments". It is worth mentioning that Pacific SOGO Department Store has banned disposable and melamine tableware in the food court, which has moved ten well-known catering enterprises to replace the related tableware in each site. Bag suppliers are also influenced by the spirit of Pacific SOGO Department Store’s CSR, and independently applied for verification of FSC.
