The release of the results of "Taiwan Young-Student Physicists Tournament"

        Far Eastern Y.Z.Hsu Science & Technology Memorial Foundation and the Department of Physics of National Taiwan Normal University jointly hosted the "Taiwan Young-Student Physicists' Tournament". On July 28, the closing ceremony and prize awarding ceremony was held in the central hall of National Taiwan Normal University. 108 excellent teachers and students from Taiwan's north, central and southern high schools competed for the prize of nearly NT $1 million. After the competition, the Taiwan team was selected to participate in the international competition held in the Republic of Georgia in September with the goal of winning the championship trophy again. The award ceremony was jointly organized by Far Eastern Y.Z.Hsu Science & Technology Memorial Foundation and the Department of Physics of National Taiwan Normal University. Xie Xiumei, vice president of School of Science, Taiwan Normal University, and CAI Zhishen, section chief of Department of Physics of Taiwan Normal University were invited to give a speech and give the award.

        Far Eastern Y.Z.Hsu Science & Technology Memorial Foundation, one of the sponsors, was established by the Far Eastern Group in memory of its founder, Mr. Yu-Ziang Hsu. The foundation has attached great importance to the development of science and technology and education in Taiwan. So since 2009, the foundation has cooperated with the Department of physics of National Taiwan Normal University to organize the event together. The form of the competition was completely similar to the International Young Physicists' Tournament held by foreign countries for more than 30 years. In addition to high bonus, the form of debating the physics topics in English is also the first time to appear in Taiwan. This year, it also attracted outstanding high school students from all over Taiwan to form teams to participate in the competition. At the same time, outstanding players were selected through domestic competitions. After long-term training, they began to participate in competitions in Iran, Germany, Britain, Russia, Singapore and other places under the sponsorship of the foundation from 2010.  A total of 1 gold medal, 5 silver medals and 4 bronze medals were gained in the international competitions.

         “Taiwan Young-Student Physicists' Tournament " is an innovation in Taiwan. The 12 competition topics are selected from 17 topics published by IYPT every year. Before the competition, students should carry out experiments or simulations on each topic, report the research results in the competition and discuss with their opponents. The whole debate is conducted in English, which put emphasis on "cross domain" learning of oral English expression, reasoning and dialectical ability. And only with the team spirit can you win. The competition lasted 3days from July 26 to July 28, and it was very fierce.

        Three gold medal teams were selected in this competition, each team won 150000 yuan. The team with the highest credits will be awarded the championship trophy. The total bonus of this event is nearly 1 million yuan, which is the top among the competition for senior high school students. No matter whether they won the prize or not, they could get the certificate, which was a rare experience in extracurricular activities. The outstanding students in the competition have the opportunity to become a member of the Taiwan team and receive training to participate in the IYPT held in the Republic of Georgia in September this year.
