Far Eastern Group Chairman / Douglas Hsu
Victory awaits his who has everything in order-luck, people call it.
Victory is reserved for those who are ready for everything, but most people think it's just good luck. —— Roald Amundsen
This year coincides with the 30 years since the founding of Yuan Ze University. Looking back on the course of running Yuan Ze University in the past, despite all the efforts of the faculty and staff, it was only through the efforts of all the faculty members that the development of education was successful. From the beginning of the Department of Electrical Engineering to now, it has expanded to five colleges. It has become the most distinctive top university in Taiwan, nurturing many excellent universities every year. Show graduates contribute their strengths to the country in different fields and push Taiwan forward. However, the world is changing too fast, and the challenges that follow are even more formidable. For example, advanced countries such as artificial intelligence technology, the United States and other advanced countries are making every effort to develop innovative R&D applications. Our footsteps have fallen behind. Without the transformation of education and the acceleration of the training of "new economy" talents, Taiwan will not be able to maintain its competitiveness on the global stage. Struggle, this is the subject that the industry and government academia must face prudently.
Take American enterprises as an example, Sears and General Motors (GM) used to be the leading department stores and automotive industries, and General Electric Company (GE) was a model of enterprise management. These 100-year brands, even if chattering for a while, failed to grasp the direction clearly and accelerate the transformation, resulting in the sweeping wave of the "new economy", respectively. To varying degrees of frustration. For the top enterprises in the United States, the focus is not entirely on production, sales, marketing and accounting, but on how to introduce new technology into supply chain management and business model to grasp the increasing value of data, popularization of artificial intelligence, widespread use of robots, and the rise of platform economy. And major changes such as the rise of mass power are worth borrowing from Taiwan's enterprises.
In the process of transforming the "new economy", Taiwanese enterprises are more eager for talent demand, so the role of schools is very important. Yuan Ze University will continue to devote itself to the development of scientific and technological capabilities for the next 30 years, which is the unchanged foundation. More importantly, it should conform to the trend of the "new economy" and lay out a blueprint for all-round development. First of all, on the basis of the existing advantages of running schools, we should strengthen the promotion of cross-disciplinary learning, from digital skills to bilingual teaching, and foster the ability of young students to circulate globally. Secondly, Yuan Ze University plans to expand the scope of Collaboration between industry and school, construct a biotechnology and medicine park with Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, apply intelligent technology to medical services, and build a medical digital technology industry chain. In addition, the world-class buildings, including the International Conference Center, the Performing Arts Center and the Memorial Hall, will have a rich cultural and artistic heritage when they are completed and opened, which will help Yuan Ze University become an international first-class university with both soft and hard strength.
The process of learning is very hard, but the effort must pay off. After Yuan Ze University's careful cultivation, you have basic professional knowledge, whether in the Department of Science and Technology or Business Administration. But in the era of the "new economy", you must also keep pace with the times and understand the changing trends. For advanced technologies that drive change, such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Mobile Technology, Internet of Things (IoT), etc. In order to take the lead in the process of global digital transformation, we should also pay more attention to the impact of these technologies on the world.
Yuan Ze University has gone through thirty years, successive generations, and I am always very gratified to see every class of students successfully complete their studies and enter the society with enthusiasm. As you graduate this year, I sincerely hope that you will continue to learn and grow, constantly break through yourself, never give up in the face of setbacks and challenges. And the most important thing is to prepare for the new changes brought about by the "new economy" and create a tomorrow for your generation.
Victory is reserved for those who are ready for everything. I am confident that you will all be the winners of the New Economy era. The future of Taiwan lies in you!
