With over NTD80 million invested and a three-month renovation, the Café at Far Eastern, located on the sixth floor of Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Taipei, is officially unveiling its new look on 16 December 2020.  The brand-new Café at Far Eastern will be the new address for the gourmet paradise in Taipei as it redefines the buffet dining experience with dynamic, modern, live kitchens and a ‘preparation to order’ concept featuring 12 themed live stations. Reservations are being taken via (02) 7711-2080 or book online http://t.cn/A6GHGhCQ

“Local diners love buffets and the Café at Far Eastern has always been one of Taipei’s most popular buffet restaurants.  To many hotels in the market, a successful all-day dining buffet restaurant plays an essential role and ours is no exception,” said Douglas Hsu, Chairman of Far Eastern Group, “despite the impact of the outbreak of COVID-19 to the hotel industry this year, we still made the decision to invest NTD80 million and continue our renovation plan.  Domestic travel and dining out is very strongly focused upon under the government’s well-developed pandemic control plan, and we are excited to bring guests back with a unique dining experience in our new Café at Far Eastern,” Hsu said with confidence.

“As part of the hotel’s long-term commitment to improving our facilities and services, we are excited to introduce the new Café at Far Eastern as we re-invent the buffet dining experience with our commitment to a high level of freshly prepared quality ingredients and increased variety,” stated Randy Zupanski, Area General Manager and General Manager of Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza Hotel.  “Our International Culinary team has also re-created an array of signature dishes that are freshly made to order in the contemporary open market setting.  Just to name a few, there is flamed Wagyu Beef Nigiri, Lobster Seafood Bisque, Belgium Black Mussels, soft shell Crab Tempura, hand-carved Noodles with spiced Beef Soup and many more mouth-watering specialties. We also have collaborated with the world-renowned Din Tai Fung group so that guests can enjoy one complimentary basket of a Din Tai Fung specialty from our Din Tai Fung station. We are the first and only restaurant in a luxury hotel featuring this unique collaboration,” Zupanski said with excitement.

Let us take you on a gastronomic journey…meat lovers should visit the sensational grill station featuring ten types of prime meats, including the roasted aged US Rib Eye Beef, slow smoked barbecued Pork Ribs, grilled Lamb Chops, Australian Wagyu Beef Tongue and Brazilian skewers freshly made on the largest Josper Charcoal Grill in town.  To tickle your Asian palate, our Japanese station offers seven freshly caught types of seafood, five kinds of freshly made Sashimi and various hand rolls and seafood appetisers.  The Tempura and Kushiage station has seven classic selections such as Shrimp Tempura and Wagyu Beef

Kushiage.  There are six kinds of Teppanyaki dishes, including Australian Wagyu Beef and King Prawns that you should not miss.

If Southeast Asian and Indian flavours are on your list, try our Singaporean Chicken Rice, Laksa Noodles, Phad Thai, Nasi Lamak, Indian Curry with stone oven Bread and Roti and Asian barbecue such as Thai Pork Neck, Malay grilled Chicken, Satay and many more.  To comfort your local palate, we have our Taiwanese Sesame Seed Cake and a wide selection of Noodle Soup from Dandan, Egg Tomato, Shrimp Wonton to traditional Xian and Sichuan Noodles that will bring back memories of grandma’s home.  Cantonese barbecued Pork, Dim Sum and roast Peking Duck in a Crepe Roll from our MICHELIN Plate awarded Shang Palace menu are also highly recommended.

To complete your flavourful journey, you cannot leave the restaurant without tasting one of the tempting homemade cakes from the dessert corner.  This is definitely paradise for all with a sweet tooth as our pastry team carefully prepares a wide selection of delicate desserts, including oven-baked Chocolate Fondant featuring local Cocoa from TC Choco, Peanut Cookies, Crème Brulee and Waffles made to order…all too delicious to make your choice at the first sight.  Why not also pamper yourself to a scoop or two of Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream featuring eight flavours to choose from or a Cone filled with Swiss Milk soft Ice Cream with 12 kinds of toppings for your enjoyment.

In addition, we provide a free-flow beverage selection that includes two kinds of draught Beer and Nitrogen Coffee as well as signature drinks using the freshly home grown Holy Basil from our hydroponic planters to create an ultimate dining experience.

To make the dining experience more exciting, we also installed a new lobster tank in the seafood station where guests can order live Boston Lobster at an additional great deal of only NTD558.  You can choose one of three cooking methods including our signature baked Lobster Thermidor, wok-fried Lobster with Chilli Sauce and grilled or poached Lobster with warm Butter that our Lobster Master Chef will freshly prepare a la minute.  A set of lobster cutlery and an apron will be provided and guests are encouraged to join our Lobster Club by simply following the hotel’s Instagram @ShangriLaTaipei and posting their photo with the lobster at hashtag #CafeLobsterClub to enter the lucky draw.  We will draw one lucky winner monthly to enjoy an afternoon tea buffet for two persons at Café at Far Eastern.

Zupanski said: “with the grand success of our Far Eastern Grand Ballroom renovation last October, we’ve once again worked with the world known international design team, CAP Atelier, to make over this restaurant.  We also engaged the Taiwanese artist and fashion designer, Jasper Huang, to design the uniform for our service team.  We look forward to welcoming our guests with a fresh, new look inspired by the Song Dynasty and local culture.”
