Asia Cement Corporation's "Nine" will reduce carbon emissions! Number of consecutive awards won by all factories in Taiwan, No.1

        On November 21, the Industrial Development Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs praised the "outstanding manufacturers of voluntary reduction of greenhouse gases in industries". Asia Cement Corporation's Hualien plant overcomes the process limitations of the cement industry and continues to reduce carbon emissions every year. This year, it won the ninth award under the theme of "improving the energy efficiency of waste heat recovery and power generation and increasing the reuse of alternative raw materials and fuels", becoming the most awarded factory in Taiwan.

        Chen Zhixian, Chief Depot Factory Manager, explained that the main sources of carbon dioxide emissions during cement production include limestone calcination process (about 60%), coal combustion (about 35%), and indirect electricity emissions (about 5%). Asia Cement Corporation's Hualien plant has been actively investing in equipment, improving processes, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the use of alternative raw materials and fuels.

        Asia Cement Corporation Hualien Factory is one of the earliest factories in Taiwan to implement voluntary greenhouse gas reduction. Since 2009, the voluntary reduction has accumulated over 330000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, equivalent to the annual carbon absorption of 860 Taipei Da'an Forest Parks. In 2022, the company invested nearly NTD2 billion to improve equipment, reducing carbon emissions by nearly 30000 metric tons compared to 2021, and also reducing coal usage by more than 5000 metric tons. The overall benefits are quite significant. In the future, we will continue to develop various carbon reduction technologies and encourage customers to adopt cement products that combine quality and low-carbon emission characteristics, such as Yangfang brand plastered cement, Butland limestone cement, etc., to work together with the industrial chain to achieve the ultimate goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

        The research team of Asia Cement Corporation's Hualien plant also simultaneously published a paper titled "Calculation and Analysis of Net Zero Emissions Path Map for the Cement Industry in 2050". Referring to the various carbon reduction measures in the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) net zero path map, and based on practical experience, the paper explores how the cement industry can establish goals and plan carbon reduction plans through scientific methods, hoping to work together with industry partners to achieve environmental friendliness The vision of Sustainability Development.
