学会说话艺术　为您赢得好人缘

　　「说话」是一门艺术，温和委婉的沟通方式，能搭起友谊的桥樑、维繫良好的互动；相反的，太过尖锐的言词，不但伤害人际关系，也会带来负面影响。本期「英文小教室」要告诉您，如何运用优雅的词汇，让聊天不再卡卡！

　　在职场上，面对比较不如人意的状况时，应避免使用未经修饰、刺耳或粗鲁的语句，尤其要给予他人建议或批评时，若能透过正面积极的词汇，再搭配一个否定的修饰语，即可优化表达方式，让对方更愿意倾听。

Vocabulary （词汇）

（x）ugly- unpleasant or repulsive in appearance（丑陋的、令人厌恶）

（✓）not very attractive（较不吸引人）

 

（x）boring- tedious, dull, monotonous（无趣、乏味、单调的）

（✓）not particularly interesting（较不具吸引力的）

 

（x）confusing- difficult to understand, perplexing（艰涩难懂的）

（✓）not very clear（不够明确、不够清晰）

 

（x）a waste of time- useless or profitless activity（浪费时间）

（✓）not a good use of time（未能妥善利用时间）

 

句型：am/is/are/was/were + not + very +（positive adjective）

Examples（例句）

（x）This is a bad idea.

（✓）This is not a very good idea.

 

（x）The product is expensive.

（✓）The product is not very affordable.

 

（x）The facilities were dirty.

（✓）The facilities were not very clean.

 

Conversation（情境对话）

Steven：I'm disappointed in the location of our hotel. This is a really ugly part of Manila.（这间饭店的视野不好，放眼望去马尼拉的丑陋显露无遗。）

Hillary：I have to agree with you. This section of the city is not very attractive.（我也这么认为，这景色的确不够吸睛。）

Steven：I really liked the first speaker today, but that second presenter was boring. I couldn't understand his presentation; it was totally confusing.（我好喜欢今天的第一位演讲者，但第二位就枯燥无味极了，我完全听不懂。）

Hillary：You're right. His presentation was not particularly interesting, and it was also not very clear.（对，他的简报较不具吸引力，论述也没有很清晰。）

Steven：I really hope this conference doesn't turn out to be a waste of time.（我真不希望这次的商务会议变成在浪费时间。）

Hillary: We're missing three full days of work, so it would be a shame if this isn't a good use of our time.（我们整整耗费了三个工作天，如果未能妥善利用就太可惜了。）
