Strengthening children's traffic safety education with Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection's digital textbooks.

        Affected by the novel coronavirus pneumonia, the number of schools applying for the children's safety education course of Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation has greatly reduced. Fortunately, the local version of digital safety education textbook jointly produced by Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection, Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation and Far Eastern Memorial Foundation has been launched at the beginning of the year. It provides free downloads to 450 primary schools in Taiwan and outlying islands, so that children's traffic safety education will not be interrupted due to the epidemic.

        During the summer vacation, children lack the care of school teachers and spend more time going out alone. They need to pay more attention to traffic safety outside. According to the statistics of Department of Transport, in recent years, an average of 20 children is involved in traffic accidents every day in Taiwan. The latest data also shows that nearly 3000 children were injured or killed in the accident from January to April this year. Therefore, instilling the correct concept of traffic safety from childhood is still an important step in the implementation of traffic safety.

         In order to promote children's traffic safety, Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection interviewed the volunteers. After knowing that children's traffic safety films in the past were often restricted by copyright and could not be used, a special "digital traffic safety textbook" was designed to integrate Taiwan street view animation with live action shoot. In the way of guiding questions and answers, teachers and children can constantly interact in the course and learn to pay attention to "stop, watch, turn, wave and move" and the concept of keeping away from the blind spot of the truck drivers. Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection said that in order to let local "volunteer teachers" use the textbook smoothly for the first time, teaching videos for adults were specially produced to enable teachers and volunteer partners to master teaching skills faster.

        Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation said that before the launch of digital teaching materials, due to the limited manpower of volunteers, schools in Taipei city and New Taipei city, Taoyuan and Kaohsiung were the main schools to promote. As soon as the digital teaching materials were launched, we received tremendous response. 450 schools applied for online download and offline teaching. More than 300 schools were located in counties and cities where Jing Chuan Child Safety Foundation had not been involved in the past. Even schools in the outlying islands such as  Kinmen, Penghu, Green island, Hualien and Taitung also applied. The teachers also hoped to have other teaching materials on traffic safety as soon as possible due to good teaching effects.

        In addition to promoting the digitization of children's traffic safety teaching materials, Far Eastern Electronic Toll Collection also extended the scope of "car welfare" to the cyclists. KUO-KUANG eBUS was invited to remind the cyclists to pay attention to the difference of radius between inner wheels and the blind spots. The total 150 KUO-KUANG buses use creative advertising to propagandize the right traffic safety concept in the city's main roads and scenic spots. KUO-KUANG eBUS also said that in the future, they will continue to participate in cooperation and make a contribution to traffic safety.
