In the face of the wave of global green supply, Asia Cement Corporation continues to develop low-carbon process technology and announced on May 12 that it has completed the shore power of cement ship. In the future, when the cement ships of Asia Cement Corporation call at the port, they will all switch to shore power supply of TPC, and there will be no demand for oil for ships. It will not only save more than 1474 tons of oil for ships every year, but also effectively reduce 5329 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which is a pioneering work of Taiwan cement industry.
At present, the four cement special vessels belong to the U-Ming marine transport of the group. They are specially built for Asia Cement Corporation's "cement from the east to the west". They carry cement produced by Hualien plant to all parts of Taiwan and foreign markets. However, in the past, the cement vessels mainly used fuel oil to generate electricity to provide all kinds of power demand on board, which produced noise and air pollution. In order to reduce the impact on the ocean, ecology and environment, Asia Cement Corporation and U-Ming marine transport jointly completed the shore power project in Kaohsiung port, Taichung City port, Keelung port, Hualien port and four cement special vessels in two stages, with a total investment of NT $37.39 million.
The shore power project of Asia Cement Corporation is not only in line with the concept of green harbor promoted by the government, but also the trend of global port transformation. However, the seemingly simple theory involves the tidal range of the port, the scope of the wharf, the power supply design specifications of different ships, and so on. In addition, it also needs to cooperate with the shipping schedule of each ship and weather factors, so the construction was extremely difficult. Nevertheless, the team in charge has overcome the challenges. Regardless of the design, supervision and test run, all work was developed by its own technology. So even during the novel coronavirus pneumonia, Asia Cement Corporation is not affected and continued to carry out the shore power project of the cement ship.
Through practical verification, the shore power engineering system can not only reduce the air pollution emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfide and nitrogen oxides, but also greatly improve the unloading efficiency of cement ship and shorten the unloading time by 50%; In addition, the total shutdown of the generator can reduce the operation wear of the equipment and prolong the service life. It can also arrange the saved operation manpower to deal with other maintenance work and optimize the human resources. In the future, it can be promoted to other shipping peers, which is of great significance to help build a low-carbon green harbor.
Zhang Zhipeng, senior executive vice president of Asia Cement Corporation, stressed that in April this year, Asia Cement Corporation passed the international rigorous review of science based targets Initiative (SBTI), becoming the fourth company in the world to set carbon reduction targets and specifically respond to global warming control below 2°C (well below). Now it is taking the lead in completing the construction of shore power system for cement ships. Asia Cement Corporation should not only be a model of energy saving in the industry, but also turn the stereotype of the cement industry from the outside world into a green industry.
