Asia Cement Corporation won the carbon reduction award again, leaping into the factory with the most awards

Asia Cement Corporation Hualian Plant won the award for the eighth time for "promoting recycled economy and carbon reduction", and also became the factory with the most awards in Taiwan. Chen Zhixian, the chief department factory manager of Hualian Factory of Asia Cement Corporation, who represented the award-winning factory, said that according to statistics, Taiwan emits about 290 million tons of greenhouse gases every year, of which 3.5% comes from the cement production process. In view of this, Asia Cement Corporation has comprehensively planned carbon reduction technologies more than 10 years ago, developed low-carbon products, and removed various obstacles for the cement industry to move towards net zero.

        Asia Cement Corporation Hualian Plant is one of the first plants in Taiwan to voluntarily reduce greenhouse gases. Since 2009, it has successively started to reduce carbon emissions from raw materials, processes and products of cement through 14 major programs, including: improving cement and raw meal transportation methods, improving heat recovery efficiency of chillers, using waste heat recovery to generate power, optimizing rotary kiln speed, implementing recycled economy, developing and producing low-carbon cement, etc; According to the investigation of the Industrial Bureau, by 2021, Asia Cement Corporation Hualian Factory has voluntarily reduced more than 330000 tons of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the carbon adsorption capacity of 860 Da'an Forest Parks in a year.

                Asia Cement Corporation went to net zero step by step, and published the paper "Discussion on Net Zero Emission Strategy and Practice of Cement Industry" at the meeting. From the road map of net zero emission proposed by many foreign cement and concrete authorities, it analyzed the difficulties faced by Taiwan's cement industry, current solutions, and future feasibility strategies. Asia Cement Corporation believes that the implementation of recycled economy is definitely one of the most practical carbon reduction practices in the cement industry. However, the current laws and regulations on the recycling of recycled economy materials have lengthened the time for applying for the use license of alternative raw materials and fuels. It is suggested that the government should give guidance and assistance to the industry, and recognize the waste heat generated from recycled waste as renewable energy power through a reasonable conversion method, Accelerate the promotion of recycled economy. Asia Cement Corporation also suggested that the government should revise the specifications for friendly low-carbon cement in public works and take the lead in using low-carbon cement; Review the outdated tax system that is not conducive to the promotion of low-carbon products. Taking the goods tax as an example, the goods tax of Portland cement with high carbon emission is NTD 320 per ton, but the goods tax of plastering cement or hydraulic mixed cement with low proportion of other clinker is higher, which is NTD 440 per ton. Taking the current demand for bagged cement of about 2 million tons per year in Taiwan as an example, if low-carbon plastering cement is used to replace Portland cement, it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 16%, natural mineral consumption by 5% and coal consumption by 17%, and achieve considerable carbon reduction. Asia Cement Corporation also proposed that the government could include "low carbon building materials" in the green building materials label and green building evaluation indicators, so as to promote the construction and construction industry to use low carbon building materials and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
