Chairman Douglas Hsu’s Remarks on the 39th Founding Anniversary of Far Eastern Memorial Hospital

　　In the blink of an eye, Far Eastern Memorial Hospital has already been established for 39 years.  During these years, we take delight in witnessing the growth of the Hospital, and hope to take this opportunity to share with you several important trends and the direction for our future efforts.

　　Firstly, while our Group Founder had been committed to being a humble giver, we have been following that guideline in terms of non-profit endeavors.  However, in today’s society, the fulfilment of “Corporate Social Responsibility” (CSR) has become an important index to review the enterprises.   Therefore, we should also strengthen the internal and external communications with our stakeholders to better understand the commitment by the Far Eastern Group in its CSR efforts.

　　Secondly, the world is changing rapidly.  Business operations must be more agile, not merely following schedules and routine practices.  Every colleague should be more committed to the mission, and always consider how to upgrade the industry.  In particular, given the challenges and impact of the coronavirus, the so-called “normal” no longer exits, regular practices no longer work.  Everyone should quickly adapt to the world’s “New Normal.”

　　According to the survey, among the world’s top 500 companies, more than 60% are seeking transformation model.  Global enterprises such as Siemens, General Motors, Citibank have all been restructured so as to adapt to the “New Normal.”  There is no exception for Far Eastern for sure.  Though currently our affiliated group companies have been operating smoothly, we should contemplate further that whether these businesses possess unique strengths? Whether they are agile to transform continuously and embrace the challenges of the “New Normal.”

　　Far Eastern Memorial Hospital (FEMH) offers top quality medical care.  The physicians are also loving, caring, and willing to communicate with the patients.  These are our unique strengths.  Yet, along with the rising living standards, the public demands better medical services.  Therefore, the Hospital is now planning to construct its Taoyuan Branch.  In addition to be the Medical Center in Banqiao, FEMH also wishes to help elevate medical quality and patient safety in more areas.  Meanwhile, we will actively cope with the advancement of technologies, and migrate toward AI and digitization to fill in the gap of medical manpower, and continue to enhance our medical quality and efficiency.

　　“Transformation” is easier said than done.  It involves planning in various directions or processes, even adjustment in management system is quite challenging.  For instance in financial services, currently most banking services can be handled directly online without manual processes.  This has become the “New Normal,” to which we should not only adapt, but also need to tackle along with the new business models.  Aside from dedicating to transforming, staff training and talent cultivation are also important.  We will rely on the schools to assist in this respect so as to cultivate talents to be more adaptive to the new age.

　　Finally, we would like to thank you all for the Far Eastern Memorial Hospital’s achievement today, offering services to the public diligently to gain recognition.  The patients would wait in a queue for the treatments, proving our service quality is deeply recognized.  Though the Hospital will soon turn into 40 years of age, compared with those reaching 80 and 90 who are still working hard, 40 years are just a minor milestone.  Whenever crossing a new milestone would mark a fresh start.  Most importantly, whether to keep a positive mindset; same with the school’s cultivation of talent.  In addition to enhance professional training, maintaining a positive attitude is more important.  With the right mind and attitude, striding on agile steps, coupled with our joint efforts, we will surely create our own “New Normal.”＃
