The 64000 deadweight ton Ultramax bulk carriers, M.V. "Asian Eternity" and M.V. "Asian Endurance," commissioned by U-Ming Marine Transport (Singapore) Private Limited, a subsidiary of U-Ming Marine Transport, to be built by New Ocean Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., held a reception ceremony in Yangzhou on August 13th. The ceremony was personally presided over by Douglas Hsu and invited Mrs. Bruno Weill, the wife of Vice Chairman of BNP Paribas Group (China) Xiaohong Laure Zhang and Ms. Eva Leihener Stefan, the President of Taiwan's L'Oreal, respectively named the new ship, which was successfully completed under the witness of guests.
The "Yu Yong" and "Yu Xu" ships have a length of 199.90 meters, a width of 32.26 meters, and a load capacity of 64000 tons. They are the first two ships in the Ultramax series to be jointly developed by New Oriental Shipyard and U-Ming Marine Transport. Following the consistent energy-saving and environmental protection concept, they not only exceed the energy-saving requirements of the third stage of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), but also add the Fleet Safety Management System (FSM) developed by U-Ming Marine Transport, Fleet Safety Management Through the ship networking, ship operation and meteorological data are synchronized and transmitted back to the company for shore analysis and monitoring, further improving ship energy efficiency, increasing operational efficiency, and reducing failure rates. This system has not only obtained SMARTShip Notation from Japan's NK, Norway's DNV, Taiwan's CR, France's BV and other classification societies, but also won the Maritime Safety Award from the Singapore Maritime Safety Authority.
During the construction process, Hempel X8 high-performance anti fouling coating was used, and the secondary dock construction method was employed to ensure that each layer of coating could fully cure, improve adhesion and durability, and maximize anti fouling performance. Due to its ability to significantly reduce the attachment of organisms to the hull, decrease fluid resistance, save 5% to 8% of fuel during navigation, and reduce carbon emissions, the anti fouling properties of this paint can effectively reduce maintenance frequency and extend the service life of ships that must anchor for a long time. In addition, the "Yu Yong Wheel" and "Yu Xu Wheel" have also obtained the LNG Ready classification symbol issued by the classification society, with a design layout that can be retrofitted to use liquefied natural gas (LNG) energy, which is conducive to reducing the demand for carbon footprint in the future.
In response to the IMO's net zero greenhouse gas emissions goal by 2050, U-Ming Marine Transport is implementing a fleet replacement program, striving for environmental transformation by replacing energy consuming old ships with new environmentally friendly ones. This not only reduces carbon emissions but also increases operational efficiency. In addition, U-Ming Marine Transport continues to develop sustainable fuel alternatives to ensure more environmentally friendly and sustainable operations. At present, 94% of the total tonnage of the U-Ming Marine Transport fleet is environmentally friendly, which is much higher than the market average of 37%. The average age of the ships is 6.4 years, which is lower than the average age of 12.2 years in the bulk shipping market. Environmental protection and youthfulness are the two major competitive advantages of the U-Ming Marine Transport fleet.
U-Ming Marine Transport attaches great importance to ESG and will release its first independent greenhouse gas inventory report for parent and subsidiary companies this year. It will also lead the industry in planning and producing the Task Force on Climate related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) independent report. Its long-term efforts have also been recognized by various parties, including being listed in the "FTSE Taiwan Sustainability Index FTSE4Good" composite constant stock for consecutive years, winning the "Sustainability Report White Gold Award" and "Taiwan's Top 100 Sustainable Model Enterprises Award" from the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy in 2023, and also receiving the "Outstanding Fleet Expansion Performance" and "Outstanding Green Shipping Development Performance" from the Department of Transport's 2024 Outstanding Ship Transport Industry Selection. Three awards, including "Outstanding Performance in Supporting Maritime Training Collaboration between Industry and School", Recently, it was awarded the "Best Companies to Work for in Asia" award and the "Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Award" by HR Asia, a well-known Asian magazine, for the year 2024, Equity & Inclusion Awards、 The Sustainable Workplace Awards and Most Caring Company Awards are internationally recognized as happy enterprises.
