Far Eastern Talks: My Healing Time
Far Eastern Magazine / Editorial Room

Some moments may not disturb the world, but they can quietly repair the cracks in one's mood. In this issue, Far Easterner from home and abroad is specially invited to share these gentle daily landscapes. Let's practice together and see beauty from the brief pauses.

Since my son Piper fell to the ground, my life is no longer free spirited, but has added a sweet burden. What I look forward to most every day is coming home from work. As soon as I open the door, I see my son running towards me with small steps, shouting 'mom' and gesturing for me to pick him up, burying him in my arms, and looking at me with love. At that moment, the fatigue of the whole day was relaxed. Although I work during the day and have to face a pile of building blocks and toys on the ground, a pile of bottles to be washed when I come home at night, and have to tell stories two or three times by the bed before finally holding my big hand and falling asleep contentedly, watching my child's cute sleeping face is the most healing time for me. For me, walking is the simplest and most reassuring form of healing. When footsteps land on the ground and people, things, and events unrelated to the street pass by, the world suddenly becomes wider. Strange scenery, coincidental smiles, and the unnoticed small shop around the corner may all evoke an inexplicable surprise in the mind. Without a purpose or framework, let your thoughts wander freely, like embarking on a leisurely adventure of your own. In life, sometimes continuous effort may not necessarily yield returns, but walking is like 'one plows, one reaps'. With each step taken, the pedometer honestly records that focus and perseverance, and the accumulation of daily, weekly, and monthly steps is a gentle reward for oneself. Especially when seeing a record breaking step count, a sense of emotion arises. It's not a victory in a competition, but a release and awakening. Walking, accompanying me out of the tangled thoughts, helps me find balance in my emotions, and is also a process of dialogue with myself. (Arcoa Communication/Zhou Xuesheng)

Just like the loop of the program, I cycle between home, office, and after-school care classes every day, with only the yoga classes of the company club allowing me to temporarily cut off from the outside world, stretch my tight muscles, break through my personal limits, twist and stretch, not aiming for perfect figure, but just to achieve what the teacher said, stretch one millimeter more in each class than in the previous class, because each stretch can strengthen muscle memory, and sweat is a sign of effort. Health is accumulated points/credits, paving the way for a longer-term path. (Far EasTone Telecommunication/Guo Yinghui)

When dusk falls through the window sill, the TV in the living room is my healing barrier. There are no shortage of good dramas, allowing me to taste different fireworks in a different world. In the old dramas that I watch repeatedly, there are classic scenes from four famous works, the martial arts atmosphere of Hong Kong films, and the never-ending Conan, as if returning to my childhood. Sometimes I also watch new dramas, such as the sweet and healing scenes in "The Proud Sun Like Me", the plot twists and turns in "The 24 Stratagems of Chang'an", and the warmth hidden in the details, which can always soothe my inner restlessness. Occasionally release a documentary to observe the historical context, the world of flora and fauna, or the local customs and cuisine of different regions. Without the urging of KPIs, let go of trivial matters for now, only slow down time. During the advertising break, getting up to brew a hot drink and listening to the faint sound on the TV is a great moment. (Far Eastern Textile Industry (Shanghai)/Mao Qunhua)

In my spare time, I hope to pause my mind for a moment. And my healing time is hidden in those colorful and distinct LEGO bricks. When I pour a brand new box of LEGO on the table and thousands of parts scatter, it is the beginning of my journey of meditation. I will first brew myself a cup of warm coffee, and then dive into the world of assembly. Whether it's the Star Wars series that recreates classic scenes or the Disney series full of fairy tale magic, every step requires full attention, following the instructions step by step to build, from finding the corresponding particles, confirming the direction, to precise joining with a "click" sound. Watching the scattered building blocks gradually stack and form into a majestic Millennium Falcon, or building a dreamy and romantic castle, the sense of achievement in my heart is unparalleled. Lego is not only a collectible for me, but also a ritual to relieve stress, pulling me away from the busy reality and entering a world of only building blocks and creativity, regaining calmness and vitality, and filling me with energy to face the next challenge.
